Lowell Herrero’s lighthearted, whimsically exaggerated characters are created in an equally exaggerated setting. Herrero, who only paints in daylight, works on a towering, rolling easel the size of three doors, which rotates to follow the sun’s movement. The humorous proportions of his subjects were honed during his early foray into illustration and caricature art for the “San Francisco Chronicle” and local nightclubs. He later formed his own design firm, creating images for major corporations in the 1950s, and left to devote himself to painting. Herrero, who lives in the Napa Valley, enjoys depicting images from rural life and his innocent, humorous work can be seen on calendars, posters, limited edition prints, and stationery.
